Diffusion in Porous Solids: Insights into the Effect of Pore Structure
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Edinburgh
Department Name: Sch of Engineering
Abstract
This project will address this gap by measuring mass transport and adsorption on individual commercial beads, pellets and formed materials using the zero length column (ZLC) and the adsorption differential volumetric apparatus (ADVA) with a range of molecules (including Ar, N2, CO2, n-alkanes and toluene). The same beads will be then tested in the FIB-FEM facility to obtain detailed structural information at the nanoscale. The main outcome of the project will be a large database of structural and mass transport information on the same individual beads, which will form the basis for validating advanced multiscale modelling approaches to predict diffusion in porous materials.
