Exploring quantum materials using extreme conditions of magnetic field and applied pressure
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Warwick
Department Name: Physics
Abstract
This project aims to explore new examples of quantum materials, including low-dimensional and quantum magnets, exotic conducting materials, unconventional superconductors and other strongly correlated electron systems. Ultra-high magnetic fields will be used as a probe and a control parameter of the electronic and magnetic interactions. In addition, applied pressure will be employed to tune the materials through critical points in their phase diagram. Key quantities such as crystal structure, magnetization, resistivity, specific heat and spin dynamics will be measured and used to shed light on the mechanisms behind the theoretically and technologically significant properties these materials display
