Studying CP violation in the neutrino sector

Lead Research Organisation: University of Warwick
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

CP violation has been well-measured in the quark sector, but has not been seen in the lepton sector. There are tantalising hints that it might be an important factor in our understanding of neutrino flavour oscillations. The current experiment, T2K, has been running for a number of years and has a large dataset of exploitation, and plans to build the next generation of neutrino oscillations experiments, Hyper-K, is in development. This project will involve analysis of the T2K dataset to better constrain the systematic uncertainties on the current CP violation measurement. Looking to the future, the project will also involve R&D on contributions to the Hyper-K experiment, most likely through work Warwick is doing on the calibration of the detector.
