Search for long-lived particles produced in pp collisions at \sqrt(s) = 13 TeV using the ATLAS muon spectrometer

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

Long-lived particles (LLPs) are predicted by a number of extensions to the SM, including hidden sector models which hypothesise hidden-sector scalars that couple weakly to the SM Higgs boson. This project will involve a search for scalar LLPs with ranges of c\tau >~ 5m, for which the decay products, if charged, can be detected as displaced vertices in the ATLAS muon spectrometer.
