Urban Elites, Informality and Inequality

Lead Research Organisation: University of Leeds
Department Name: Politics and International Studies

Abstract

The project speaks to the CEL pathway primarily in exploring the elite
interests and power dynamics in cities in both the global north and south.
The project explores how elites shape the city space in terms of planning
and access to basic services, and further the consequences that this has
for urban environments and liveability. Further the project contributes to
the CDD pathway in exploring how elites influence and shape spaces for
participation and consultation in cities. The power dynamics of
governance, citizenship and development processes will be revealed
through a multi-dimensional analysis thus contributing to the grand
challenges of each pathway.
