Computational metagenomics in personalized medicine: Defining high resolution microbial genotypes

Lead Research Organisation: University of East Anglia
Department Name: Postgraduate Research Service

Abstract

This bioinformatic project will explore bacterial strains and their evolution within the human gut using metagenomics, the random sequencing of all DNA within a sample. For this data mining techniques will be used and combined with evolutionary and ecological theory. The project will seek to develop metagenomic, bacterial genomics, and provide an understanding of what a bacterial species is.
