Parallel synthesis to facilitate rapid materials discovery

Abstract
Mixed anion layered materials, (MALMs), have displayed interesting functional properties, such as superconductivity and transparent conductivity. However, many types remain unexplored, and therefore MALMs remain a class ripe for further investigation. I propose a new parallel synthesis approach that will greatly increase the rate of synthesis, lowering the cost and risk for new materials discovery. This makes use of exchange reactions between precursors that leave a tell-tale salt by-product identifying successful reactions. This rapid synthesis approach will allow us to greatly diversify the known MALMs and reinvigorate research in this area, with new materials and a new route to discovery.
