Electron transfer in hydrogen bonded metal-organic materials.

Lead Research Organisation: University of Huddersfield
Department Name: Sch of Applied Sciences

Abstract

Hydrogen bonds are non-covalent interactions, but they can be relatively strong. The directionality of the hydrogen bond makes it suitable for the design of self-assembled supramolecular architectures, which can be easier to process than materials with covalent interactions. Recent studies have shown that charge transport through hydrogen bonds can be as efficient as through pi-bonds. This project will develop self-assembled metal-organic hydrogen bonded materials that have interesting charge transport properties, which incorporate metal-metal quadruple bonds. The designed synthesis of hydrogen bonded conductive compounds is likely to lead to a new class of electro-active hybrid materials.
