Star Formation in Dwarf Galaxies

Lead Research Organisation: University of St Andrews
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

Several projects will be undertaken looking at star formation in dwarf galaxies, developing the models of resolved star formation on galactic scales based on St Andrews-developed smoothed-particle hydrodynamics code. This will involve modelling a full galactic potential, the formation of molecular clouds and the onset of gravitational collapse and star formation, including radiative and kinematic feedback from ionisation and supernovae, with the aim of increasing understanding of the effect of this feedback on molecular cloud lifetimes and star formation efficiencies.
