Department Name: Physics
Abstract
This research project will investigate various surface functionalisation protocols for optical biosensor technology based on the guided-mode resonance phenomenon. The aim of the work is to improve the perfomance of such sensors, to address issues such as non-specific binding and to improve the sensitivity of the technology for a panel of biomarkers in immunity and infection. The project involves making biosensors using the York Nanocentre cleanroom and related facilties as well as experimenting with a variety of functionalisation protocols in our biochemistry laboratory.
