Energy-Efficient Machine Learning for Mobile/Embedded Systems
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Southampton
Department Name: Sch of Electronics and Computer Sci
Abstract
This PhD student will join a newly established International Centre for Spatial Computational Learning http://spatialml.net. This is a close collaboration between the University of Southampton (UK), Imperial College London (UK), the University of California Los Angeles (USA), and the University of Toronto (Canada), as well as companies including Arm, Corerain Technologies, Imagination Technologies, Maxeler Technologies, and Xilinx. The candidate will be based in Southampton, but will have the opportunity to travel frequently to America to attend research meetings and for a placement period at either UCLA or Toronto. The PhD will undertake research in one or more of the following areas, related to hardware/software co-design for energy-efficient machine learning on mobile/embedded devices:
Hardware design for machine learning/deep learning
Software/algorithm development for machine learning/deep learning
Hardware/software co-design for improved performance/efficiency
Efficient software development for mobile/embedded systems
Run-time software adaptation for system resource management
