Constraining the cosmological model with deep, wide-field surveys of the Universe.

Abstract

Current and future galaxy surveys of the cosmos will span many thousands of square degrees and over great depths. Extracting the most cosmological information from such surveys will require us to carefully account for a wide range of physical effects and observational challenges. Such as dealing with the light-cone effect, the evolution of the galaxy sample, the transition to curved sky geometry and the use of orthogonal basis functions on the sphere, nonlinear evolution of the matter fields and the bias. In this thesis we will explore these effects in preparation for 4MOST and LSST. We will also look to make use of the Dark Energy Survey and Kilo Degree Survey data and improve constraints on the cosmological model through novel statsitics
