Abstract
This is a PhD research project in Physics.
The project has the goal to demonstrate coherent control of electronic spins in novel material platforms, such as silicon carbide and 2D materials. The student will expand the capabilities of a cryogenic confocal microscope which is currently under construction, adding the capability to apply sophisticated microwave pulse sequences for spin control. Individual electronic spins will be used as localized quantum sensors, capable of detecting magnetic fields with high spatial resolution. We will apply the quantum sensors to study magnetic fields associated to novel 2D van der Wals heterostructures, such as ferromagnetic 2D layers and electron spins in periodic Moire patterns.
