Preparations for ATLAS ITk Pixel Endcap Module loading and high-mass Frell-Yan leptoquark searches in ATLAS data

Lead Research Organisation: University of Oxford
Department Name: Oxford Physics

Abstract

The data analysis project consists of a measurement of inclusive and differential ditau production, with an emphasis on the tau-tau-b-b final state. This final state is motivated by new-physics models that can explain a series of anomalous measurements at the LHCb experiment. The measurements will be interpreted using model-independent EFT coefficients, and using specific leptoquark models that best describe the LHCb measurements.

Simon will also contribute to the ATLAS ITk Pixel system. The system's building blocks are the modules that include a sensor connected to a readout chip via bump bonds. A flexible PCB, called flex, is glued on top of the sensors to connect the modules to the off-detector electronics. Module loading on the pixel end-cap half-rings will be performed using a robotic gantry and custom tooling to place the modules within 100 um of their nominal positions. Simon will contribute to the module loading development and perform glueing tests to optimise the glue coverage. He will also carry out the assembly and characterisation of the cold box where the half-rings will be tested.
