Understanding promoters and terminators of transcription in bacteria

Lead Research Organisation: University of Birmingham
Department Name: Sch of Biosciences

Abstract

Promoters and terminators are DNA sequence signals that act as start and stop points for the utilization of genetic information. Working with bacteria, this project aims to understand the positioning of these sequences across whole genomes. The project will use global methods (e.g. cappable-seq and term-seq) in combination with biochemical tools (e.g. reconstituted in vitro systems using purified proteins and DNA). The application of computational biology is also an important aspect of the work and will all high-throughput processing of DNA sequence properties to aid data interpretation.
