PhD studentship in Materials Chemistry: Next-Generation Cathode Materials

Lead Research Organisation: University of Birmingham
Department Name: School of Chemistry

Abstract

The project is aimed at the synthesis and characterisation of new Li ion battery cathode materials in order to meet UK requirements for automotive and portable Li ion batteries. Given the cost and ethical concerns regarding the use of cobalt, the project will focus on the development of new Cobalt free cathode materials. To this end the synthesis, structural and electrochemical characterisation of new materials based on Fe and Ni will be investigated to include both traditional layered cathode materials and alternative structure-types, with a view to identifying promising candidates for the future.
