Biosensing platforms to detect bacterial lectins

Abstract

This project will generate new biosensors for proteins associated with disease. We will design and synthesise a library of copolymers which resemble the mammalian cellular surface, and are expected to interact with carbohydrate-binding proteins expressed on the surfaces of bacterial cells and viruses. These materials will be explored as the basis for new diagnostic devices to rapidly diagnose infection, based on sensitive detection strategies including fluorescence, and label-free strategies including the heat transfer method and thermal wave transport analysis.
