Understanding radionuclide behaviour in magnox sludge effluent streams

Abstract

This purpose of this proposal is to develop a joint-funded PhD Project at the University of Manchester (UoM) through the Green CDT, for the continuation of studies to further understand transuranic chemistry and radionuclide behaviour within effluent treatment systems at Sellafield. This builds on the ongoing collaborative research projects between Sellafield Ltd (SL), the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) and the University of Manchester (UoM) to allow improved understanding of colloidal/particulate risks and radionuclide behaviour during effluent treatment. The project also benefits from the new laboratory facilities enabled by the NNUF RADER labs at the University of Manchester, as well as a multi-technique approach to understanding radionuclide speciation and fate in complex environments which has been developed by the PI.
