Abstract
Expanding the telecom network needs either adding new infrastructure or reusing old ones, as well as the network will need regular maintenance. Reusing old infrastructure could be tempting to save up the cost and time installing new infrastrcutre could use. However surveying and adding new cables to the old infrastructure can face some obstacles including old cables twisting over each other, dust and silt congestions or even collapses from external factors. Through developing a continuum snake robot attached to the end of a standard cabling rod many of the problems facing surveying and reusing old infrastructure could be solved. The continuum robot can be used to manuever around preexisting cables creating a path for new cables to be installed. It can be supplied with camera for inspection as well as water jets that can be used to remove any blockage. The project deals with designing, manufacturing and controlling such robots to over come challenges around surveying, maintaining and deploying telecoms
