Nanoscale quantum probing of RNA granules.

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

This research project aims to investigate the formation and maintenance of RNA granules, so called non-membrane compartments in which cells organise countless of their biochemical reactions, on the nanoscale. Enabled by the magneto-optical activity of stable and fluorescent point defects in nanodiamonds, highly sensitive temperature and viscosity assessment of the liquid-liquid phase separated compartments can be undertaken. The project will include various functionalisation strategies, Optically Detected Magnetic Resonance (ODMR) readouts, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Microfluidics.
