Ultracold Atoms in a Quasicrystalline Optical Lattice

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

The field of quantum simulation utilises real, easily tuneable quantum systems as a means of investigating the physics of other quantum systems, which are typically very difficult to test directly or simulate computationally. This project does just that, using ultracold atoms in an optical lattice to probe many body quantum phenomena in a novel quasicrystalline geometry. This system's properties, along with control over a range of parameters such as scattering length, allow investigation into a range of interesting quantum phenomena.
