Co-evolution of hosts and parasites

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sheffield
Department Name: Mathematics and Statistics

Abstract

Understanding the antagonistic coevolution between hosts and their parasites is crucial to exploring infectious disease dynamics in plant, animal and human populations. In this project we will use mathematical models to explore questions around the evolution of host defence to disease and its coevolution with parasite infectivity. We will develop systems of ordinary differential equations to describe the disease dynamics, and apply the framework of adaptive dynamics to explore the evolutionary trends. We will complement this with computational simulations.
