Low intensity nonlinear optics in the THz regime
Lead Research Organisation:

Abstract
The project will explore liquid crystals and organic thin films and their use for THz beam manipulation, exploring their strong interaction with artificially micro- and nano-structured surfaces (metasurfaces). The metasurfaces will be designed, fabricated in the cleanroom and then characterised experimentally to measure the localised enhancement of the electric field and the spatially dependant material parameters. This project also involves modelling to study the underlying physics of strong light-matter interaction. Theis multidisciplinary PhD research offers a good balance of fundamental and applied science, uniting the two in order to take forward our groups' successful research in THz photonics and liquid crystal devices.
