Lead Research Organisation:
Durham University
Department Name: Anthropology
Abstract
This is a collaborative research project to be conducted in partnership with
Praxis, India whose letter of support accompanies the nomination form. It
will involve a combination of ethnographic and participatory research
methodologies to explore garment workers experience of health and
wellbeing in the context of their work environments, both factory and home
working. Ethnographic research will inform the participatory action research
Praxis have planned in Ahmedabad, North India. It will take into account,
and take advantage of my status as East African Gujarati and the special
opportunities this offers in terms of language and heritage. Through
collaboration, and the guidance of Praxis, I will be able to develop more
participatory research methodologies with around twenty garment workers
and their families.
