Testing Lepton Universality as a challenge to the Standard Model of Particle Physics

Lead Research Organisation: University of Manchester
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

The universality of the weak force coupling to leptons is one of the fundamental pillars of the Standard Model of particle physics. The recent evidence of the breakdown of this principle, which if confirmed would be a ground-breaking discovery, demands further measurements to establish the origin of this effect. This project will deliver the first full angular analysis of b-hadron decays to a charm hadron, a neutrino and either a muon or a tau lepton at LHCb. This measurement has the sensitivity to establish the lepton universality violation effect and investigate the nature of potential New Physics processes.
