Decarboxylative fluorination of aromatic carboxylic acids
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Manchester
Department Name: Chemistry
Abstract
Objective:
This project will investigate the development of synthetic methods for the synthesis of fluorinated aromatic compounds via C-H and decarboxylative activation.
Approach:
We will develop novel fluorinating reagents capable of achieving fluorination aromatic compounds by taking advantage of the reactivity of carboxylic acid functional groups present in the molecules.
A series of fluorinating reagents will be designed with the help of computational studies, synthesized and tested. Successful reagents will be further investigated to reveal their scope and potential as well as their applications to industrially relevant compounds, particularly in the pharmaceutical arena.
Remit:
This project falls within the areas of Catalysis and Synthetic Organic Chemistry
