Modelling School Mobility in London with Spatial Network Analysis

Abstract

School mobility plays a colossal role in the educational trajectory of a child. Changing school can be
either compulsory, such as moving from primary to secondary school, or voluntary, such as
changing a school between the second and third grades. Oftentimes this process provides
additional opportunities for a child, but sometimes it might be harmful to further educational
achievements. The effect of transition between schools on a pupil's performance has been broadly
investigated by researchers recently (Burgess et al. 2008; Harris 2013; Sweet 2018). In this regard,
many educational experts emphasise the UK context and the regulations imposed by the school
choice system (Allen et al. 2012; Gorard, Fitz, and Taylor 2001),
