Smart Design and Synthesis of High-Performance Cathode Active Materials for Lithium ion Batteries

Lead Research Organisation: University of Warwick
Department Name: WMG

Abstract

The applicant has worked in my group as a summer placement student for the past two years and is currently working, full time, in my group as a research assistant. It is felt that they are most suitable for the EngD position.
The aim of this thesis is to explore and evaluate new synthetic routes to cathode materials, with a consideration to both smart design and synthesis. To this end WMG has invested in laminar flow and powder ALD coating reactors. Ultimately it is hoped to demonstrate the maximum performance of cathode materials. This work will be partially sponsored by Johnson Matthey, hence showing the industrial applicability of the potential outcomes of this work. All materials will be fully characterised, both using standard and advanced techniques, and enhanced battery performance and extend lifetime will be demonstrated in real world format cells.
