String theory, geometry, and symmetriesString theory, geometry, and symmetries

Lead Research Organisation: Durham University
Department Name: Mathematical Sciences

Abstract

String theory provides a powerful framework for geometrising subtle questions in quantum field theory. Once geometrised, these questions can then be answered using tools in algebraic topology and algebraic geometry. This project will apply this philosophy to the study of categorical symmetries: a far-reaching generalisation of the idea of symmetry which is the focus of much current research.
