Abstract

Clinical research nurses (CRNs) are trained nurses who look after patients who participate in clinical trials. A clinical trial is a type of medical research where a medicine or medical procedure is tested to see whether they work on humans. When a patient is participating in a clinical trial, CRNs and doctors check that the patient does not become ill and that the clinical trial is progressing according to plan. We think that when CRNs work alongside patients and doctors, the clinical trial is better organised, and patients get better care. We do not know the problems that doctors and CRNs face when managing clinical trials while caring for patients and what they do to resolve these problems. We think that CRNs and doctors face these problems separately. I want to find out how CRNs and doctors deal with problems when taking care of patients and managing clinical trials. This project will give patients the opportunity to explain why they want to participate in clinical trials and what they expect and want by participating in them. My project is unique because no project has researched the interaction of CRNs, doctors, and patients in clinical trials. My project will help to better understand the relationship dynamics between patients, CRNs, and doctors. I hope thisbetter understanding, can improve the teamwork between CRNs and doctors, find out what patients want from participating in clinical trials and perhaps improve theexperience of participating in clinical trials.
