Higgs boson physics with the ATLAS experiment

Lead Research Organisation: University of Glasgow
Department Name: School of Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

This studentship will focus on signatures of double Higgs boson production, building on the Glasgow group's activities in the observation of single Higgs boson production in association with both vector bosons and top quarks. The increased statistics and collision energy from Run 3 of the Large Hadron Collider, starting in 2022, will significantly increase sensitivity to double Higgs production, with the potential of reaching sensitivity to the rate predicted by the Standard Model. The resulting information about the Higgs self-interaction, or new physics relating to double Higgs signatures, will significantly increase our knowledge of the basic constituents of the universe and how they interact. Work done during the studentship will also contribute to aspects of the ATLAS experiment's recommissioning and operation in Run 3.
