Investigating lay understanding of medical terminology used in minor head injury consultations

Lead Research Organisation: Swansea University
Department Name: College of Arts and Humanities

Abstract

The project is motivated by a need identified by health care professionals: to communicate information about illness and injury appropriately, minimising risk of misunderstanding and maximising patient/practitioner confidence and partnership. The mixed methods design will use interview and questionnaire data from health professionals and the public; data will be collected, stored and managed in line with Swansea University 'Research Ethics and Governance' structure, and will follow Integrated Research Applications System (IRAS) guidance regarding NHS compliance. As with previous collaborative projects, the researcher will receive Health and Safety training, and will work with project partners, the University NHS R&D lead, and the University Occupational Health team, as appropriate, to comply with site-specific requirements.
