Role of policing in diversionary interventions

Lead Research Organisation: University of York
Department Name: Social Policy Social Work

Abstract

This project focuses on a number of the central themes of the SCJ pathway: social deprivation, gender and racial inequalities, and evolving techniques of crime control. In doing so, the project will address fundamental questions about the forms and purposes of multi-agency
diversionary approaches to young people who are deemed both 'vulnerable' and 'problematic'. In particular, the focus on the lived
experience of marginalized young people will bring unique and important insights into these issues. This PhD research project will therefore make an important contribution to the ESRC Vulnerability and Policing Futures Research Centre's mission to influence policy and practice with respect to
policing vulnerability - thereby addressing the SCJ pathway aim to address pressing policy challenges in the field.
