Development of Selective CO2 Electrolysis for the Production of Sustainable Chemicals

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Chemistry

Abstract

The project will develop gas diffusion electrodes for the electrochemical reduction of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. We will develop porous electrode architectures constructed from carbon and metal oxide materials that will enable precise integration of catalysts to generate high current densities. The project involves materials chemistry, electrochemistry and the handling and use of carbon dioxide reducing biocatalysts. The final objective is the construction of a carbon dioxide electrolyser that operates at high efficiency for the production of clean fuels and chemicals.
