Create computational models & conduct simulations of neural development, as well as contribute to the ongoing BioDynaMo collab that involves CERN

Department Name: Computing Science

Abstract

The student will create computational models and conduct simulations of neural development, as well as contribute to the ongoing BioDynaMo collaboration that involves CERN. This project will investigate how genetic specification produces neural structure and function in a self-organizing manner, ultimately helping better understand the brain in health and
disease. Various publicly available datasets on genes and brain anatomy will be used. Here some further comments, as apparently they are removed before submission: We would like to recruit Ms Birch for an EPSRC DTP PhD studentship. We estimate that about £1,000 annually will be required to cover conference attendance and meetings to present and
disseminate the research. The University's high-performance computing facilities will be used. The starting date of the PhD studentship could be end of July the earliest, or October the latest.
