Lineup construction methods: Should lineup constructors be blinded to the suspect?

Lead Research Organisation: Swansea University
Department Name: College of Human and Health Sciences

Abstract

The project concerns eyewitness misidentification. The purpose is to determine how blinding line-up constructors to the appearance of police suspects impacts: i) line-up fairness; and ii) line-up decision accuracy. The outcomes of this research could aid law enforcement in constructing suspect line-ups reducing misidentification. As the project utilises 'mock' crime scenes we do not envisage any major safety or ethical concerns.
