Discovering new black holes in optical Surveys

Lead Research Organisation: Newcastle University
Department Name: Sch of Maths, Statistics and Physics

Abstract

My PhD aims to make it possible to detect self-lensing BH and NS systems with ongoing and upcoming surveys, collaborating with other scientists within the Compact Object Binaries Accessed via Lensing Techniques (COBALT) collaboration. I will undertake machine learning and data-intensive science modules alongside my research during the first year of my PhD - the content covered in these modules will assist me with computational modelling and data analysis.
