Studies of the Higgs and di-boson decays involving leptons with the ATLAS experiment in LHC.

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sheffield
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

One of the most effective routes for studying the Standard Model electroweak sector is via decays of involving the production Higgs boson or two bosons that in turn decay into leptons.

The project aims to:

- Contribute to the search for Higgs decays to two muons. This effort is tightly coupled to the performance improvements of lepton reconstruction and identification.

- Observe the Higgs decay to two muons and measure the relevant Yukawa coupling constants. The LHC is expected to deliver ~ 150 fb-1 during RUN III with a centre of mass energy of 13.6 TeV over the next 3 years and this measurement is one of the most anticipated results expected from the ATLAS collaboration in the next few years.

- The increased centre of mass energy will also open the window for measuring di-boson production cross sections in a higher energy than ever achieved before.

Lucy will qualify as ATLAS author and perform service work related to the ATLAS experiment operation. To this effect she is expected to contribute to the ATLAS electron performance group. The aim will be to prepare aspects of the ATLAS electron and photon reconstruction in view of the installation of the updated ATLAS ITK tracker.
