Long Ranged Alpha Detection

Abstract
With the ever growing need in nuclear decommissioning and nuclear nuclear forensics, alpha detection is important for safety. Currently there are commercial detectors that are required for personnel to be very close to sources due to alpha particles very short mean free path. This puts the personnel in danger, requiring PPE, and creates risk for the detector to be contaminated if it accidentally touches the alpha source. As such, a demand for a long range scanner for alpha radiation sources is constantly increasing. This project will be investigating and developing a long ranged alpha radiation detector.
