Direct Dark Matter Searches and Neutrino Detection with the LZ Dark Mattr Experiment
Lead Research Organisation:

Department Name: Sch of Physics and Astronomy
Abstract
This research will focus on analysis of data taken in the second and third science runs of the world-leading LZ direct dark matter experiment. LZ utilises liquid xenon TPC technology with a 7-tonne target to detect particle interactions deep underground. The project will focus on lowering LZ's detection thresholds to individual quanta of light and charge; this will enhance sensitivity to not only low mass dark matter candidates but also Boron-8 solar neutrinos, which can be detected through coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering. Detection of either of these particles will be the world's first.
