A framework for designing and deploying heterogenous modular Network Functions for next generation networks
Lead Research Organisation:
University of Glasgow
Department Name: School of Computing Science
Abstract
This research project will strive to combine diverse technologies to compose Service Function Chains. Merging concepts from Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and the microservice architecture will deliver a network service delivery framework that will depart from monolithic to non-monolithic vNFs and advnaced chains that will offer much better resource management and scaling of the Network Functions. Also, the nature of the microservice architecture (loosely coupled, self-contained components) will allow for independent development and therefore enhance network service composability from heterogenous building blocks.
