Development of integrated UV-Vis-NIR reflectance sensors for operando analysis of Li-Ion batteries

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Engineering

Abstract

There is an increased drive towards battery technology with high capacity and reduced content of materials which can not be obtained in a sustainable and exploitation free manner. Cobalt free or nickel rich lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries are an excellent candidate. The study of their degradation pathways at high cut-off voltages must be performed and inform material selection decisions in order to achieve this goal. To do this we suggest a novel sensing method, which aims to decrease the price of battery research ten fold, when compared to current techniques. This will allow a larger group of researchers to move into the field and accelerate its growth
