Abstract
This project will develop methods to scale up the data carrying capacity of optical fibre communication links using space- and wavelength-division-multiplexing. This scalability will be achieved through the development of novel optical sources (such as optical comb generators) which can be shared across multiple spatial channels, optical amplifiers which provide gain simultaneously across multiple spatial channels, and digital signal processing which shares operation across multiple spatial and wavelength channels, saving cost and energy.
