A framework for the sustainable design of floating wind arrays - Assessing the possible impact of floating wind arrays on conditions for phytoplankton

Lead Research Organisation: University of Edinburgh
Department Name: Sch of Engineering

Abstract

The main aim of the project is to fill a gap in understanding how floating offshore wind structures may influence the food chain of shelf seas by changing the conditions required for growth of phytoplankton. This is an important topic to study for the industry in terms of ensuring compatibility of the engineering works and the ecosystem and in creating knowledge that would allow the sustainable use of the shelf sea ecosystem into the future.
