Water digital twins for flexible resilience-informed planning
Lead Research Organisation:
Imperial College London
Department Name: Civil & Environmental Engineering
Abstract
Objectives of the project are:
1) To develop a WSIMOD implementation for a selected case study; model developments will include more detailed modelling of water supply, allocation algorithms and wastewater systems
2) To design of controls that can be used to improve the key selected indicators in the system (i.e., river water quality, low and high flows), including innovative design and operational options, such as Abstraction Effluent Discharge
3) To develop a multi-objective optimisation process to simultaneously create a portfolio of future options that builds in flexibility and adaptability of operation into the water systems design and planning process under future uncertainties.
The focus this PhD is on further development and application of Imperial College London's Water Systems Integration Modelling Framework through the concept of a Water Digital Twin. The work will provide novel digital platform for resilience-informed planning of integrated water systems, directly relevant for the digital futures and engineering net zero EPSRC priority areas.
