Advancing State of the Art in Pre-Construction Operational Simulation Modelling for Offshore Wind

Lead Research Organisation: University of Edinburgh
Department Name: Sch of Engineering

Abstract

This research will advance pre-construction simulation models, which are critical tools for de-risking investment decisions in the offshore wind sector. This project will address these gaps by improving how models represent complex operational constraints. The goal is to provide a clearer understanding of financial and operational risks, from optimising maintenance contracts to validating new technologies like floating wind. Beyond improving pre-construction forecasts, the research will identify how advanced modelling can create value across the entire asset lifecycle. The ultimate ambition is to provide the industry with a more powerful suite of tools to increase project certainty and accelerate the deployment of offshore wind.
