Modelling the emission of the outer solar atmosphere

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Applied Maths and Theoretical Physics

Abstract

The project aims at improving the modelling of the emission of the outer solar atmosphere, from the chromosphere to the corona, both in specific solar features and in the Sun as a star, so models of the emission of solar-like stars can also be improved. The improvements will involve adding atomic physics processes to the models, as well as adding semi-empirical constraints based on detailed analyses of available observations of the emission from the solar atmosphere, from the X-rays to the near-infrared.
