Watch and Worry? How are the support needs of people living with newly diagnosed chronic haematological malignancies being addressed?

Lead Research Organisation: University of Sheffield
Department Name: Sociological Studies

Abstract

This proposed project focuses directly on people's experiences of blood
cancer including their experiences of diagnosis and access to healthcare.
In doing so the proposed project fits directly with the grand challenges
posed by the WR DTP Wellbeing, Health and Communities (WHC)
pathway. The proposed project aims to explore the experiences of people
living with untreated, newly diagnosed chronic blood cancer. Given that
more and more people are living with cancer it is imperative that research
on chronic and hidden cancers (such as blood cancers) is conducted. By
focusing on chronic forms of cancer the proposed project fits directly with
the WHC pathway focus on life-limiting health conditions. The project is
uniquely situated across sociology and STEM subjects and as such is
poised to have a substantial impact on the care of those living with chronic
cancer, thereby aligning with the WHC pathways focus on health invention.
