Geospatial assessment of methane emissions from degrading permafrost across the Arctic

Lead Research Organisation: University of Nottingham
Department Name: Faculty of Engineering

Abstract

In this project, you will investigate physical permafrost degradation and associated methane emissions of Arctic landscapes in Scandinavia using remote sensing. You will collect and process existing and novel geospatial and Earth observation data and use atmospheric models to develop regional assessments of methane emissions and atmospheric concentrations. You will use AI based geospatial methods to combine data streams develop tools for quantifying permafrost degradation and assessing atmospheric methane concentrations.
