Simulations and multi-vantage-point observations of solar flare energetic electrons

Abstract

"Acceleration of particles is a ubiquitous cosmic phenomenon. Particle acceleration in solar flares is the prime example of such processes. Despite active research, acceleration and transport processes are far from well understood, either theoretically or observationally/phenomenologically. The nearby Sun offers a unique opportunity to study electron acceleration and transport via hard X-rays, radio and in-situ observations in space. Using the observations (Solar Orbiter, Parker Solar Probe, RHESSI, Fermi), theoretical and numerical modelling will be undertaken to better understand solar electron acceleration at the Sun and transport from the Sun to the Earth. This investigation is particularly timely due to new multi-point observations closer to the Sun than ever before and is one of the main scientific objectives of the recently launched NASA Parker Solar Probe (PSP) and ESA Solar Orbiter (SolO) missions.
